Yinka Shonibare 3D printed Carriage Clock

Carriage Clock 2019 Limited Edition. Made for Artes Magnus Launched October 2019 by the James Cohan Gallery at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in Somerset House

Scales & Models has developed and produced the Carriage Clock by Yinka Shonibare CBE for Kit Grover Ltd.

Some of the manufacturing processes included 3D modelling/design, 3D printing, laser cutting, brass metal etching and eventually much spray painting and traditional model making approaches to assemble and complete each piece.

For the full production we have used in the region of 35 kilos of SLA resin 3D printing. And roughly 100 kilos of ABS and PLA filament 3D printing.

Each carriage consists of just over 100 individual parts which eventually come together to create each piece. It's taking 4 months to make 10 clock carriages and for the full production we will need 16 months with estimated completion in September 2020.
